The Light Sport Repairman Maintenance is a 15-day 120-hour course that enables students to earn an FAA-certified Light Sport Repairman Certificate with a Maintenance Rating (LSRM), providing them with privileges similar to an Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) mechanic with Inspection Authorization (IA), but specifically for light sport aircraft. Tuition costs are $4,500 for this two-week LSRM maintenance course
FAA Light Sport Repairman Maintenance (LSRM) Program
(Pre-A&P Workforce Development Pathway)
Infinity Aero Club Tampa Bay, Inc. proudly offers the FAA Light Sport Repairman Maintenance Certificate (LSRM-A) program as part of our Aviation Workforce Development initiatives. This intensive 120-hour, two-week course equips students with the FAA-recognized credential to perform maintenance, inspections, and return-to-service approvals on Light Sport Aircraft (LSA).
Following the graduation of several of our members from the LSRM course, Infinity Aero Club is now offering this program in partnership with one of the nation’s leading FAA-approved training providers. Looking ahead to 2026–2027, we plan to establish an East Coast partnership with a dedicated LSRM training site in Tampa, Florida, to expand access and opportunities for students across the region. Additional school locations are also planned for Texas, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Alabama.
In alignment with the FAA’s MOSAIC (Modernization of Special Airworthiness Certificates) rule changes, Infinity Aero Club will partner to launch a three-week, 160-hour program. This expanded course includes the standard 120-hour curriculum plus an additional 40-hour MOSAIC Add-On Week, which prepares graduates to service and inspect the next generation of Light Sport Aircraft — including aircraft with higher gross weights, variable-pitch propellers, retractable landing gear, and advanced avionics.
Workforce Development Significance
- Pre-A&P Pathway: The LSRM is a foundational credential that prepares students for the FAA Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) certificate. It builds critical skills in tools, systems, inspections, and FAA regulatory compliance.
- Immediate Work-for-Pay: Upon graduation, students are eligible to work for compensation as FAA-certified Light Sport Repairmen, opening jobs in flight schools, maintenance shops, LSA manufacturers, and emerging eVTOL/UAS industries.
- FAA OJT Bridge to A&P: While employed, graduates can accumulate FAA On-the-Job Training (OJT) hours toward their A&P certificate, allowing them to earn while they learn and advance without financial delay.
- Future-Ready Workforce: With MOSAIC training, graduates will be prepared to meet the demand of an expanded LSA category, bridging the gap between sport aviation and general aviation maintenance careers.
Career Pathway Example
- Step 1: Complete LSRM-A 120-hr course (2 weeks).
- Step 2: Begin paid employment in the aviation industry.
- Step 3: Enroll in future 160-hr MOSAIC-Ready Program (3 weeks).
- Step 4: Accumulate OJT hours toward FAA A&P eligibility (18–30 months).
- Step 5: Take FAA A&P written, oral, and practical exams.
- Step 6: Advance into broader aviation maintenance and aerospace careers.
Benefits for Workforce Programs
- A fast-track entry point into aviation careers for youth (18+), veterans, and career changers.
